We packed up early and hit the road. We had a stop to make on the way to our next destination. Our 4th grader had a special pass to get into any national park for free! He could also get his whole family in for free. How fun is that! It is a program called Every Kid in a Park.
"Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site features a reconstructed 1840s adobe fur trading post on the mountain branch of the Santa Fe Trail where traders, trappers, travelers, and the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes came together in peaceful terms for trade. Today, living historians recreate the sights, sounds, and smells of the past with guided tours, demonstrations and special events." (from their website)
This place was amazing! Each room was full of artifacts that took you back in time. I was certainly impressed.
I would have enjoyed hearing about each of the rooms but there was one little problem. This guy decided he didn't feel like taking a tour of the trading post. Instead he fussed with his new cry. He says, "No" over and over again. However, his "No" sounds like "Mmmowwww" So, I walked around with a child in my arms who sounded like a crying cat. Lovely. At least he said, "cheese" for this selfie.
Ma and Pa said it was time for the tour to be over..."Children, load up in the wagon. It's time to hit the trail!"
Our last destination: Papa and Nana's house!!!
Papa and Nana are my grandparents. They live about 3 hours away from us. This means we don't get to see each other very often. I treasure our visits even when they are quick. We spent our last night of vacation with them before heading home.
We tucked tired kids into bed tonight when we got back to The Barn House.
Then we high-fived.
Another family vacation in the books! We will never forget it and we hope our kids will look back on this week fondly!
